I was so happy that this movie won best picture at the 2009 Oscars. I have seen it twice and it gets better each time. It is a love story, a tragedy, and an homage to hope. The movie is about a young man who is on a show similar to 'So You Want to Be a Millionaire". He is getting all the questions right and the producers are questioning whether he is cheating. However, it is his life experience that is providing him with all the answers.
Our hero grows up in the worst of slums in Mumbai. He, his brother, and the love of his life have been tight since they were young children. He has carried his love for this young girl into adulthood. How all their lives turn out carries the movie along. There is not one dull moment. Through tragedy, horror, reconciliation, love, and horrific scenes we cheer for the hero. When I saw the movie at the theater, everyone clapped and cheered at the end. That is rare these days.
This is a picture in a million. It appeals to everyone. I give it my highest recommendation.
