I will take the blame if Veer fails: Salman Khan

New Delhi, Jan 20 (PTI) It is a film that has been in the making for more than two decades and cost a whopping Rs 40 crores, but actor Salman Khan is unfazed while announcing that he is ready to take the blame if ''Veer'' fails. The period drama is the brainchild of the Bollywood heartthrob, who also turned scriptwriter for his dream project.
"I have been told plenty of times that period dramas are not a safe genre and there are many flops to prove the point. I have left it for the audiences to decide if ''Veer'' works or not.
If it does, the credit will be everybody''s and if it doesn''t, then I will take the blame," said Khan during a press conference in the city to promote the film which releases on January 22. The 44-year-old actor plays a Pindari soldier leading a revolt against the British in the film set in 1857 and the project in the actor''s own words has been a "long and hard journey.
" "The idea has stayed with me for the past two decades and back then there was no scope for an ambitious project like ''Veer'', not the budget, neither the audience. But that has changed now and after a long time, the film finally materialised," said Khan.
The actor went the whole hog for his pet project. He spent months learning horse riding and also started blogging to promote the film.

Three Khans…One king...Who?
The clash of the trinity
One throne but three contenders. And all of them Khans. With the films of the each Khan releasing with just a gap of weeks in between, time has never been more apposite to draw comparisons between the Khans troika of Bollywood, namely Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan. Aamir has already come up trumps with 3 Idiots which, as we all know, has smashed box office records to emerge as the biggest hit of its time. Now, the spotlight shifts to Salman and Shahrukh, whose films Veer and My Name Is Khan will be hitting the theatres in the coming weeks. Jab We Met , Love Aaj Kal and now...ROCK STAR
Posted On Monday, January 11, 2010 at 02:09:47 AM
After the super success of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, they have become the hottest onscreen pair in Bollywood today. And now, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are ready for an encore. They will star in Imtiaz Ali’s next, his long-in-the-pipeline project Rock Star.
The film has passed through the hands of many potential rock stars. Imtiaz first offered it to John Abraham. Excited as hell, John had begun to prepare for the part and even started to learn the guitar in 2008.Then, Imtiaz found an option - Saif Ali Khan seemed perfect for Rock Star because he was almost one in real life. If he played the role, he didn’t even need to start learning the guitar. However, Saif and Imtiaz did Love Aaj Kal instead. During the making of the film, Rishi Kapoor, who also starred in it, was so impressed by Imtiaz that he swore he would make the director work with his son Ranbir.Says a source, “Imtiaz and Ranbir met many times in the past few months and discussed several projects. But it was Rock Star that Ranbir liked the best.”We hear Ranbir will be learning to play the guitar for the part as soon as he finishes with Siddharth Anand’s Anjaana Anjaani. Ranbir was heard telling a friend, “Who wouldn’t be excited about playing rock star? It’s a dream role.” To add to the magic, Ranbir’s co-star in Rock Star is Katrina Kaif - a combo every filmmaker in Bollywood wants to get together.Attempts are on to sign Katrina for the only other film Ranbir has signed for 2010, which is being directed by Anurag Basu. However it’s the Imtiaz Ali project that Katrina has apparently said yes to so far.And contrary to perception that AR Rahman is doing the music, it’s apparently the tried and tested Pritam Chakraborty.“After Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal, who wants to break the Imtiaz Ali-Pritam team?” wonders a source close to the project. “Ranbir will go all out to prepare for his part as a rock star. He wants to look every inch the part. That includes the sinewy muscled physique and expertise with the guitar strings.”

Sush, SRK, Fardeen promise paisa vasool
MUMBAI: Bollywood diva Sushmita Sen is all charged about Viveck Vaswani’s rib-tickling comedy Dulha Mil Gaya that opens tomorrow. And her excitement is
understandable. Says Sush, “After a long time, I can truly say that this is my film because I have a very pivotal role in it. As it is I do less work, and when I do show up in a film, people are keen to see me doing something substantial. This is the kind of film that when I tell people to come and see, I’m taking full responsibility... because it is my film.”
Sush says that each and every character in the film, especially those of Shah Rukh Khan and Fardeen Khan, is good and when a script is character-driven, it automatically works. Fardeen is not far behind in his endorsement. The actor, too, is confident that the film, which premieres tonight, is money-for-value entertainment. The dashing FK Jr says, “I am delighted. The entire cast and crew besides Sush and me completely believe in this film, which is why we are so excited to bring it to our audiences.”
Debutant director Mudassar Aziz’s romantic comedy is a film Fardeen is proud to be associated with. In fact, the premiere invite actually reads “Fardeen Khan and Sushmita Sen proudly invite you...!” Insight Production, presenters Morpheus Media Ventures and producer Viveck Vaswani promise a fun-filled Mumbai premiere with the film print being brought in on a baraat ki ghodi (wedding horse)! “My audience are the people I want to please and fortunately the reaction is overwhelming! Sush-FK-SRK just sizzle on screen!” says a delighted Mudassar.
My next movie has to be a lighter affair: Karan Johar
Mumbai, January 07: Director Karan Johar wants to go back to 'song and dance' movies after 'My Name Is Khan', which is about the journey of an unusual couple living in the US post- 9/11 terrorist attacks.
'I have given my three years, heart, soul and body to 'My Name Is Khan'. Now I would love to get back to songs and dances. I guess it's the need of the hour for me,' said Karan who is known for making light movies like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'.
'Making a film is all about the state of mind - three years back I felt that I had to tell the story of 'My Name Is Khan'. Perhaps after making my 'song and dance' film, I would be fed up again and make something else thereafter. However, as of now I am very clear that my next movie has to be a lighter affair,' he said.
Talking about the trigger point that led to conceptualising of 'My Name Is Khan', he said: 'It was basically a film that was needed to be addressed. I had certain feelings and wanted them to be translated for screen. Moreover, this idea also required me to get out of my safety zone.'
Releasing Feb 12, 'My Name Is Khan' stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and Karan worked with writer Shibani Bathija on the movie. He did a lot of research work for the movie.
'More than just the visual presentation on screen, what was of pertinent importance was the fact that 'My Name Is Khan' required a lot of external research. All this while it was about my own world with which I was comfortable but here I was looking at certain perceptions which are a global phenomenon.'
It has been reported that 'My Name Is Khan' is picking upon the issues and challenges faced by Muslims globally and aims at addressing them through the medium of cinema.
'Please let me set the record straight that 'My Name Is Khan' is not an issue- based film. Instead it's a human drama about a couple. The film will make you smile and result in tears in your eyes.
'At the end of it all, it's a human film with emotions that are universal. It's a film which connects with you. But I'm not taking forward the baton of an issue. Instead I am just using it as a part of the narrative.'
'My Name Is Khan' also stars Soniya Jehan, Jimmy Shergill, Zarina Wahab, Parvin Dabbas, Arif Zakaria, Navneet Nishan, Sheetal Menon, Arjun Mathur and child artist Tanay Chheda seen in 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
A co-production of Karan Johar and Gauri Khan, 'My Name Is Khan' is being marketed and distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures.
