Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist

This is Michael J Fox's second book...his first being Lucky Man: A Memoir, in 2002 he announced to the world that he had Parkinson's disease and detailed what it was like living with and raising awareness for this currently incurable disease. 2009 he releases is second book, ALWAYS LOOKING UP.

Once again, the eighties icon turns a debilitating and degenerative disease and offers a ray of hope for people who might otherwise find depression. ALWAYS LOOKING UP blends many elements into a heart-warming and optimistic memoir that will bring hope, humor, and awareness to millions of people.

I say memoir because much of the book is from his own personal experiences and how he shed light on those dark times. He speaks of how Parkinson had strengthened his "family ties" Okay, I'm not as funny as Michael J Fox, but he doesn't think he would have the strong, close knit family he has if it wasn't tested by Parkinson's.

ALWAYS LOOKING UP, is the perfect name for this book, the man, and everything he has done to help raise awareness for this incurable disease...whether it's a guest appearance, a heartfelt memoir, or through his foundation: The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, ALWAYS LOOKING UP is about optimism and making choices and finding a cure.

And if you missed Michael J Fox's first book Lucky Man: A Memoir I would highly recommend reading it. courtesy - Toby Kenzington

Taking Chance (2008)

The made-for-HBO Taking Chance is based on perhaps the single most moving artifact to come out of the Second Gulf War, Lt. Col. Mike Strobl's first-person narrative of his voluntary mission escorting the body of a fellow Marine killed in Iraq.

"I first watched this a couple of days ago and was blown away. Not only by it's simplicity, but for it's unusual look at what happens when a soldier dies and is returned home. I had no idea how the Marines treated their fallen and this film shows the quiet dignity, respect and honor that they afford their fallen as they escort them home to their families. I cried throughout the film and I still cry even though I'm not watching it right now. The movie is that powerful. Keven Bacon did a superb job in portraying Lt. Col Strobl, who wrote this wonderful story and screenplay. To Lt. Col Strobl: thanks for writing such a simple, yet moving story and to Chance and Chance's family: thank you for the service to our country."- Debra A. Elholm (Wisconsin USA)

Kites (October 2009)

BIG Pictures is gearing up to market Kites to international buyers, distributors and media during the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

To begin with, BIG Pictures will host a press conference and an elite cocktail event at Cannes. BIG Pictures has also purchased time slots to screen the Kites teaser on two digital screens adjacent to the red carpet entrance of the Palais, for the entire duration of the festival. This is a regular feature for big-budget Hollywood films, but for the first time ever, an Indian studio will showcase their film publicity on that screen.

Kites stars Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori, Kangna Ranaut, Nick Brown and Kabir Bedi in pivotal roles. Produced by Rakesh Roshan's Filmkraft and directed by Anurag Basu, Kites is being readied for release in the last quarter of 2009.

Apart from Kites, BIG Pictures will market and publicize its art house film slate. The International Distribution team has also lined up meetings with officials from Hollywood studios such as Fox, Sony, Paramount, Disney, Warner, Universal, Lionsgate among many others, to explore business propositions.

Videsh (2009)

SOON AT OUR STORES -ORIGINAL DVD

Thought for the Day

In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna calls upon Arjuna to regard himself as an instrument of the Divine. Every human being is indeed an instrument of God. As such, he should carry out his duties, leaving the results to God. Men have to do their duties; success or failure is determined by the Divine. Do not esteem yourself as the doer. Develop the conviction that the Indwelling Spirit in you is directing you and enabling you to act.- Baba

Barah Aana (2009)

Barah Aana is a story of three have-nots who are fed up of their wretched existence and decide to take matters into their own hands.

The story has very interesting possibilities, and the acting is certainly top notch. Naseeruddin Shah has only 3 lines of dialogue in the entire movie, that too in the climax – he communicates only with his facial expressions and shrugs in the rest of the movie – and that itself is a study in acting !! Vijay Raaz is the most vocal among the three and he is good as usual. Amrit Mathur (the guy was Farhan's friend in Luck By Chance) does the aspiring young man role very well too. But I thought Tannishtha Chatterjee made the major impact in the small role of the phone-booth owner in the slum.

Guys if you like a real cinema, the real characters and a genuine comedy, go and watch Barah Anna and please watch it in theatres, its a film to be watched in cinema-ghar. I am happy that end of the film was not the usual cliché. I wish I can make such films some day. Where do these guys get such ideas from??
